The expansion and redevelopment of the Fourways Mall is gaining momentum with over 10 cranes on site. The expansion which is projected to cost an estimated R2,5 billion being executed by Accelerate Properties.
As part of the redevelopment plan, approximately US$ 2.3m will be spent on the refurbishment of the existing Fourways Mall Shopping Centre and a whopping US$ 21m on the adjacent road infrastructure around the mall to address traffic congestion which has been a key characteristic of the area prior to their phase. The redevelopment has increased the congestion in the area which is currently being addressed in the interim with a long term plan which will include the construction of fly-over bridges off William Nicol Drive and Witkoppen Road. The news access roads and fly over will provide direct access to the mall’s parking and be crucial in feeding customers into the mall with limited congestion.
The development includes a refurbishment and 90,000sqm expansion of the existing mall which will connect the Fourways Mall to Fourways Game and Fourways View resulting in a single, super-regional retail offering of 161,000sqm.
When completed (July 2018) the mall will be part of the third largest retail node in South Africa after Menlyn and Sandton.
